This year, Molot Oruzhie was exhibiting first time in the largest arms exhibition in Russia called International Miltary-Technical Forum ARMY. At ARMY-2019 they showed a variety of products designed both for military and civilian markets. In this article, we’ll take a look at two of the most interesting new Molot firearms – the VPO-183 bolt action rifle and the VPO-185 pistol caliber carbine.

VPO-183 Bolt-Action Rifle

This bolt-action rifle is a new iteration of the Gornostay rifle. This particular version is chambered in 9x39mm. The chassis is apparently equipped with an AR-15 buffer tube which will make it compatible with AR-15 stocks. The stock folds to the right side of the gun. The overall length of this rifle is 852 mm (33.5″) with a barrel length of 360 mm (14.2″) and it weighs 2.6 kilograms (5 lbs 12 oz). The detachable box magazine holds 4 rounds of 9x39mm ammunition. The barrel is cold hammer forged and the bore is chrome lined. The muzzle is threaded with the 14x1L standard left-handed AKM metric thread pitch. One of the distinctive features of the Gornostay action is that the bolt has rear locking lugs.

VPO-185 PCC

Molot teased the first images of this PCC a couple of months ago. Back then there was no standard Molot model designation and the gun was called Agishavsky PCC. This pistol caliber carbine is chambered in 9mm and fed from Saiga-9 magazines. It is a simple/direct blowback operated firearm. The trigger mechanism is borrowed from AK rifles. The gun also features a collapsible stock and a non-reciprocating reversible charging handle. The barrel length is 273 mm (10-3/4″) and the overall length with the fully extended stock is 817 mm (about 32″). The gun weighs 3.5 kilograms (7 lbs 12 oz).
