VERONA, Wis. – Two Verona schools secured their buildings while police investigated a tip about a man with a gun on a bike trail, according to a news release from the Verona Police Department.
Police received a report of a man walking on the Military Ridge Bike Trail with some kind of a long gun at 11:42 a.m. Monday. Police said they checked the areas adjacent to the bike trail, but did not locate the man.
A game warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources told police he had contact with the man. He was hunting in the public hunting grounds west of Verona.
Police then decided there was not a threat to the community.
While police checked the area, Sugar Creek Elemnetary School and the New Century Charter School went into “building secure” status.
